INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MEMBER OF CBSAR?
Currently, CBSAR is not taking any new members. CBSAR typically takes on new members in the spring as one group on an as needed basis. This way all new members receive the same initial training. There is no guarantee of a training academy. When we have an open application process, prospective members will be required to fill out an application form, provide a resume, be able to convey in writing why you want to be a member of Crested Butte Search and Rescue, be present for an interview, provide a driver’s license and consent to a background check, and live within the Crested Butte Fire Protection District boundaries.
We have 8 core mandatory trainings as well as online FEMA incident command training requirements. These are ICS 100, 200 and 700 which can be found on the FEMA website. Additionally, CBSAR is looking for long term members as it is a big-time investment to train new members. The first year, new members are required to make 50% of the bimonthly trainings in a year. Membership is not guaranteed after completion of basic training. New members will be voted on by active membership at the completion of the probationary training period.
CBSAR looks for a good attitude and the ability to be a part of a high functioning team. Backcountry skills and certifications as well as medical certifications are a bonus. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please submit an email letting us know who you are. Keep an eye on the website at cbsar.org for updated information. CBSAR always encourages people to get involved, however, at this time our roster is completely full.
