About CBSAR

CBSAR was called out to help search for an overdue hiker.

ORGANIZATION: CBSAR is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization governed by an elected nine member board of directors. We have approximately 35 active and registered members. Our operating and capital expenses are covered entirely by individual donations and grants.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership is open to all who have a sincere interest in mountain rescue, and the willingness and ability to become a competent and safe team member. Click here for more info.

TRAINING: Regular training sessions are held at our training cache on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evening every month at 1800 hours.

LOCATION: The team is based in the Town of Crested Butte, maintaining an equipment cache and training facility near the CB Bus Barn on the north side of town (follow Butte Ave to the town maintenance shops).

MISSION DISPATCH: This function is performed by the City of Gunnison (see Contacts), and serves all local emergency response agencies (Fire, EMS, Police, SAR, etc.) on the same VHF frequencies through a repeater system.

EMPLOYMENT: There are no paid positions. All positions are on a volunteer basis. Call our President or any Board member.

CERTIFICATION:
CBSAR is a Associate Member of the Mountain Rescue Association.

WHO PAYS FOR CBSAR SEARCH MISSIONS:
As a non-profit, all volunteer organization, CBSAR does not charge for its services. Requested outside services, such as EMS and helicopter transport, are charged by those agencies.
